Commander states still able to meet operational commitments.
Rear Admiral Jeffrey Jablon, commander of the submarine force in the U.S. Pacific Fleet, said that maintenance backlogs have reduced the U.S. Navy attack submarine inventory. The fleet is down three subs since the fall of 2021 due to decommissioning and delays in submarine construction.
Rear Admiral Jablon stated that, even with the reduced force, “We meet all our operational commitments. We’re able to ensure that our ships are combat ready when they deploy. We meet the requirements of our combatant commanders that are placed upon us.” He admitted that the situation “results in less ability to do tactical development at sea.”
